The Complete guide to a Capsule Closet

As we continue collating our capsule closet lets recap the items we have already covered in earlier posts on this site:

  • Biker Jacket – also known as Moto Jacket
  • Cardigan
  • Plain White Tee
  • Trench Coat
  • Tote Bag
  • Ballet Flats
  • Black Blazer
  • Blue Jeans
  • White Shirt
  • Black Pants

The aim of this series of posts in which  I  am compiling a suggested capsule closet is because I am using this as motivation and inspiration to purge and to quote Marie Kondo; “Spark Joy”.  Lately I have lacked the energy, enthusiasm and motivation to tackle and clean up my wardrobes which – I might add – desperately need attention.  There always seems to be something more captivating to do then tackle this but I am finding that by writing this series it is giving me some much needed inspiration to go forth and clean up.

Dear darlings,

The next must have item in any capsule closet is a biker jacket.  The biker jacket’s roots are military – having been worn by German Fighter Pilots during World War I as a protective outer layer.

Throughout the jackets various incarnations it has managed to maintain its solid popularity amongst the fashionable and is synonymous with celebrities such as Kate Moss, Sienna Miller,  Kendall Jenner and Jennifer Aniston to name a few as is evident below.

The Commandments of Style

Bottega Veneta, founded in early 1960’s creates bespoke consumer goods with a primary focus on men and women’s ready-to-wear clothing, small leather goods and select home items.  The company was launched by Vittorio, who ran the company and Laura Moltedo who was it’s creative director and president for many years.  Interestingly this luxury goods company, unlike its competitors does not put any label’s or logos on its goods and the only label will be found inside.  It is best summed up by its philosophy of when your own initials are enough – which is so exhilarating for a luxury brand.  With a showroom in New York it’s headquarters are in Milan.  The company merged with Gucci in July 2001.

Most of us will instantly recognize their trademark handbag made of woven leather strips.  This much sought after bag is uniquely crafted from the finest materials.  More recent incarnations include soft suede and plenty of fringing.

Runway to Real life

Hello friends,

Raf Simons debut collection from Calvin Klein was unveiled his first collection for Calvin Klein in February 2017.  The much anticipated collection had a packed front row which included amongst others:  Gwyneth Paltrow, Julianne Moore, A$AP Rocky, Naomie Harris, and the young stars of Moonlight. Millie Bobby Brown, a new face of Calvin, also sat front row.

I think Vogue captures it beautifully:

With outsiders’ perspectives, Simons and Mulier riffed on Americanisms, including brightly colored band uniforms, Wall Street suits, sheriff’s jackets, quilting on some terrific men’s parkas–make those for women, too, please!–and metal-tipped cowboy boots. They devoted a fair bit of attention to the great American plastic couch cover, slipping transparent plastic over everything from plaid tailoring to a sensational yellow-gold fur coat and feathered cocktail numbers. Strange. But it’s such a weird idea, it just may catch on. Calvinisms got their attention, too. Male and female models wore varsity sweaters with sheer torsos in a technical knit that looked lifted from the world of shapewear, a tricky look for both genders. Brooke Shields’s famous silhouette was stamped on the leather label on the back waistband of jeans.
